The Kids’ Election

What if we gave our kids the power to vote?

The Kids’ Election is a pop-up polling booth especially for tamariki, a way of making civic participation a fun, creative and accessible concept for a tough crowd.

An interactive space, hosted by performers of all ages, The Kids’ Election gives children an opportunity to get hands-on with how democracy works.

They can cast votes on issues chosen by other kids, add their own suggestions for voting topics, write their own protest placard, dress up and become an activist, a suffragette, a politician, or whatever they like!

Please thank the children and young people who volunteered for the event... they have so many great ideas!

The Kids’ Election was run as part of Barbarian Uprising 2017 in the lead up to the General Election, at Te Papa in 2018 as a public programme to run alongside their Suffrage 125 exhibition, and again at Barbarian Uprising in 2019. (Available on demand - a great classroom/public space activity for election year!)
