Skazzle Dazzle Good Night

anging Cymbal, Clanging Gong is the founding theatrical cornerstone of Barbarian Productions. Written and performed by Artistic Director Jo Randerson, and directed by Irene Wood, this 55 minute solo chronicles the implosion/explosion of an angry and ferral Barbarian at war with the world she finds herself in.

Jo draws on her Viking family roots (Randers, Denmark), attempting to find some value in the character of a half-caste and misfitted malcontent, alternately alienating and offending in one breath, then eliciting sympathy and laughter the next. This savage and wild barbarian rages her way through the injustices of the world, idly scattering gruesome battle renditions alongside piano recitals of Bach and readings of Robert Frost. It is a wake up call for those who have fallen asleep, and a call to arms for those who have given up the fight.

This show has been performed in Denmark, Norway, Australia and New Zealand.
It requires a piano.

"A weirdly fascinating look at love and redemption through the eyes of a Bach-playing French punk...illuminates the wilfulness of grace in acting on those despised and rejected by the world."
Dominion, Wellington, 2002
